Rizwan Manjra, 44, a motor insurance worker from Bolton, has been handed a six-month suspended prison sentence for unlawfully accessing personal data. The case was investigated by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) after concerns were raised by his employer, Markerstudy Insurance Services Limited (MISL), and third-party insurers.
Manjra accessed over 32,000 policies, many outside work hours, and unlawfully handled 160 claims, despite his role not requiring such access. Evidence showed he shared personal data via mobile phone with another person.
On November 11, 2024, Manchester Crown Court sentenced Manjra to a six-month prison term, suspended for two years, and ordered 150 hours of unpaid work. Andy Curry, Interim ICO Director, emphasized the seriousness of the breach and the need to deter others from similar offenses.
